In the heart of a picturesque landscape lies an enchanting island that hides, among its ruins, one of the most interesting cities of the Albanian Middle Ages: Sarda (present-day Shurdhah). About 8 km southeast of Shkodra, on a rocky hill 130 m above the lake, this fortified city and religious center — inhabited since late antiquity — reached its peak in the Late Middle Ages (11th–15th centuries).
